Human remains found in Northwest Arkansas

LURTON — Northwest Arkansas authorities say they're waiting for the state Crime Laboratory to identify human remains that were found by a hunter last weekend.

Newton County Sheriff Keith Slape said the remains were discovered in the Lurton area. Slape declined to say who he believes the remains belong to until authorities receive confirmation from the state lab.

Some of the remains found July 18 include a replaced hip joint that contained a serial number.

The Harrison Daily Times reported that Arkansas State Police, Flippin police, a National Park Service ranger and a canine search team from Missouri assisted with collecting the remains.
