Sirtravis Franklin of Pine Bluff was charged with second-degree battery and being a felon in possession of a firearm after Franklin and another man were "playing with a pistol" and accidentally shot the child, Quimya Chambers, in the head, police said.

According to a police report, the shooting occurred about 3:30 a.m. Thursday at a residence in the 500 block of 28th Avenue. When officers arrived, they found the girl's mother, Keosha Collins, 21, crying and yelling that her daughter had been shot.

Quimya was taken to a nearby emergency room, then transported to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.

As of Friday, Quimya was being treated in the hospital's intensive care unit. Sgt. David De Foor, spokesman for the Pine Bluff Police Department, said the girl was in critical condition and was "not improving."

A hospital spokesman said Friday night that a condition update on the girl was not available because the family requested that information not be released. The spokesman also said the family is asking for prayers.
