Proof of residence also is required in the form of a current utility bill, a Little Rock Air Force Base housing verification form, home-purchase closing papers or a lease agreement.

District alters its dress code policy

The Pulaski County Special School District is broadening its elementary-school uniform policy to allow pupils in kindergarten through fifth grades to wear any solid color of polo-style shirt that doesn't have emblems or logos.

Those shirts are to be paired with blue or khaki bottoms.

There is no required uniform for grades six-12, but students are prohibited from wearing clothing that is in any way vulgar, disruptive to the education process, or advertises drugs, alcohol or tobacco, the district said.

Pulaski Academy gets endowment

Pulaski Academy, an independent prekindergarten-through-12th-grade school in Little Rock, was recently selected to receive a $2 million permanent endowment from the Malone Family Foundation to assist secondary-school students who are in financial need.

The Malone Family Foundation was founded in 1997 by John C. Malone, a communications and media executive and investor, to improve access to quality education for gifted students who lack the financial resources to best develop their talents.

Pulaski Academy has been receiving annual assistance from the foundation to support Malone scholars since 2011 and has been working on securing the permanent endowment for the past four years, according to a letter that school leaders sent to parents and others announcing the Malone Foundation gift.

There are 50 Malone Scholars Schools in 43 states throughout the United States.
