Report: Shields headed to Missouri

Steve Shields is on the move again. According to multiple online reports, the former UALR coach is headed to Missouri as a special assistant to Coach Kim Anderson. Shields’ apparent move comes less than three weeks after he was announced as an assistant at Loyola Chicago, where he was to be reunited with Porter Moser, whom hired Shields as an assistant at UALR in 2000. The move was originally reported by NBC Sports and confirmed by PowerMizzou.com, a Rivals.com site that covers Missouri athletics. Shields was 192-178 in 12 seasons as UALR coach before being fired in March. Shields won five division titles, the Sun Belt Conference tournament in 2011 and became UALR’s all-time winningest coach. The Trojans were 13-18 this season, their third losing record in his last four seasons. Shields was announced as an addition to Moser’s staff July 7. With Shields as Moser’s assistant, UALR won 18 games each of Moser’s three seasons. Moser left for Illinois State in 2003, and Shields took over as UALR coach.
