The Little Rock Zoo has a new baby chimpanzee and is asking for the public's help in selecting a name.

The zoo said the as-yet-unnamed male chimp was born July 18 to Mahale, who gave birth to a chimp named Kendi in 2009. The father is believed to be Kijana, described as "the alpha male chimpanzee of the group" in a zoo statement.

The zoo has created an online voting page where visitors can choose from three names selected by staff:

  • Jumoke, Swahili for “everyone loves the child.”
  • Kgosi, which means "king" or "chief" in Setswana.
  • Kibale, a reference to the Kibale National Park in Uganda.

Votes will be accepted through Sunday and the results will be announced the next day.
