Investigation of heat-related death of Hot Springs child continues

Hot Springs police are continuing to investigate the Friday heat-related death of an 18-month-old child.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the child was left unattended in a “hot” car for an “undetermined amount of time,” Hot Springs Police Department Public Information Officer Cpl. McCrary Means said in a news release.

At noon on Monday, the state Crime Laboratory unofficially ruled that the child’s death was caused by excessive heat, Means said.

The state Crime Laboratory won’t release the official cause of death until the toxicology reports are concluded, he said.

Police are still interviewing potential witnesses, searching for video surveillance, reviewing 911 calls and police dash cam videos and audio.

The child’s father, Division 2 Garland County Circuit Judge Wade Naramore, has been identified as the person who called 911 on Friday.

The police department said that the Garland County Prosecutor’s Office will seek assistance from a “special prosecutor” from another jurisdiction in the state.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Chris Hays at (501) 321-6789.
