Auditorium history

Scott Whiteley Carter, special projects administrator for the city of Little Rock, unofficial historian of Little Rock City Hall and author of the LRCultureVulture.com blog, examines the twists and turns Little Rock took from 1904-34 in creating a permanent municipal auditorium in a Brown Bag Lunch Lecture titled “From Teddy Roosevelt to Franklin Roosevelt: The Quest for a Municipal Auditorium in Little Rock,” noon Wednesday at the Old State House Museum, 300 W. Markham St., Little Rock.

Carter will cover numerous unsuccessful attempts to construct a municipal auditorium before construction began on Robinson Auditorium in 1934, and the substitutes the city had to use in the meanwhile, including vaudeville houses, high schools and even a roller-skating rink that doubled as a rifle range.

Admission is free. Take your lunch; the museum will provide soft drinks and water. Call (501) 324-9685.

Dragon Ball sequel

Four central Arkansas cineplexes — the Colonel Glenn 18 and Breckenridge Village 12 in Little Rock, the Tinseltown in Benton and the Conway Towne Center — will screen the Japanese anime film Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ from FUNimation Entertainment from Aug. 4-11.

All screenings will be at 7 p.m. but not all the theaters will be showing all screenings. Tickets and more information are available at the website, FathomEvents.com.
