2 Memphis men indicted in Georgia on home invasion charges

ATLANTA — Two Tennessee men have been indicted on charges stemming from a home invasion in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood, federal prosecutors say.

Mario Deandre Jackson, 28, and Leon Scott, 25, both of Memphis, face robbery, kidnapping and firearms charges in the May 25 incident, the U.S. attorney's office in Atlanta said in a news release Wednesday.

"These men are charged with terrorizing an Atlanta family, including their three minor children, during a violent home invasion," acting U.S. Attorney John Horn said in the release.

A lawyer for Scott said in an email Wednesday that he hadn't yet seen the indictment. A lawyer for Jackson was out of the office with limited access to email, according to an automated response.

During the home invasion, two armed men entered a home in the upscale Buckhead neighborhood where a husband and wife and their three children were at home. One of the men forced the husband at gunpoint to go with him to a bank machine to withdraw money while the other man held the wife and children at the house.

Police learned through a Crime Stoppers tip that the men had traveled from Memphis and had returned there with items stolen from the home, prosecutors said. Police recovered a wedding band stolen during the home invasion at a Memphis pawn shop.

Georgia state troopers on July 9 stopped a car in which Jackson was a passenger. They found him with two guns that had been stolen during other robberies in Atlanta and Memphis, prosecutors said.

Scott was arrested on July 24 in a motel in Birmingham, Ala.
