Former Lowell police officer turns himself in

SPRINGDALE -- A former Lowell police officer turned himself in to the Springdale Police Department on Monday.

Alex Dominguez, 44, of 64B Applegate Drive in Springdale was a patrol officer with the Lowell Police Department when he was involved in a wreck in Springdale on June 17. Springdale police received a toxicology report July 16 showing prescription medication was present in Dominguez at the time of the wreck, Lt. Scott Lewis, public information officer for the Springdale Police Department, said Monday.

Dominguez was driving a Lowell Police Department car at the time of the wreck, Lowell Police Chief Randy Harvey said Monday. Dominguez resigned from the Lowell Police Department on Monday morning.

Dominguez turned himself in Monday afternoon in connection with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and misdemeanor careless and prohibited driving, Lewis said Wednesday. He was booked into the Springdale Jail and released the same afternoon. His court date is Aug. 26.
