Half-brothers plead guilty in Hope murder, arson case

HOPE — Half-brothers from Hope have pleaded guilty to charges in the stabbing death of a Hope man and the burning of his body.

The Hope Star reported that 25-year-old Corey Ray Turner pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree murder, arson, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse in the October 2014 death of 20-year-old Thomas Youngblood.

Turner's half-brother, 23-year-old Matthew Honnell, pleaded guilty to arson, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse.

Turner was sentenced to 76 years in prison and Honnell to 16 years.

Prosecutors say Turner stabbed Youngblood nearly two dozen times in the neck while Youngblood slept in the home he shared with Turner and Honnell and that Turner and Honnell then set the body on fire and tried to hide evidence.
