Rutledge names state's first solicitor general

Attorney General Leslie Rutledge said Thursday that Lee Rudofsky has been hired as the state’s first solicitor general.

Rudofsky, a New York native who currently resides in Bentonville, has served as an assistant general counsel at Wal-mart since 2014.

He graduated from Harvard Law School in 2005 and worked as a litigator in Washington, D.C. He served as deputy general counsel for Romney for President Inc. and was a clerk in the Office of Counsel to the President of the United States during George W. Bush’s administration.

Rudofksy’s duties as solicitor general will include advising the office's attorneys on all matters before the Arkansas Supreme Court, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court — duties which are currently handled by the office's deputies, chief deputy and the attorney general, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported.

Rutledge in March proposed creating a solicitor general post in her office with a maximum-authorized salary of $124,595. Rudofsky will begin as solicitor general on Aug. 24, Rutledge's spokesman Judd Deere said.
