Arkansas Tech receives student support money

RUSSELLVILLE — Arkansas Tech University has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Education allowing the institution to continue extra support to students who need a helping hand to graduate.

The Russellville Courier reports the Student Support Services grant is for $220,000 per year for five years. The program falls under the umbrella of TRIO, an initiative established by the federal government in 1964 to overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education.

The money allows Arkansas Tech to continue providing specialized services to current students who are first-generation college students from low-income families and current students who have disabilities evidencing academic need.
