LR Marathon training program to start

The Little Rock Marathon will host an informational meeting about its free training program at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Centre at University Park.

The marathon offers training to people planning to run, walk or some combination in one of the 2016 races, and the program starts Sept. 21, race Executive Director Geneva Lamm said. The training program is sponsored by Bill Torrey’s Rock City Running and KARK Channel 4. The marathon, a project of Little Rock Parks and Recreation, is presented by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

“We have athletes at every level of fitness and ability,” training program head coach Hobbit Singleton said in a statement. “Our training program is really a year-round program. After the first Little Rock Marathon in 2003, the group never stopped training and we never stopped coaching.”

Race organizers also released a YouTube video Friday announcing that the 2016 race theme will be "Game On." The video may be viewed at left.

Race weekend will be March 4-6 and will include a half-marathon, a 10K, a 5K and a kids marathon, organizers said. Registration opens Aug. 17.

The Centre at University Park is an adult leisure center at 6401 W. 12th St. Little Rock.
