NLR, LR trash pickups to begin earlier during heat

With summer heat bringing heat advisories and high temperatures, the cities of North Little Rock and Little Rock will start trash pickups earlier in the day.

The city of North Little Rock asked residents, via its Facebook page, to have their garbage out to the curb by 6:30 a.m. on their normally scheduled pickup days.

The city of Little Rock on Thursday announced that starting Monday, its sanitation workers will also begin trash pickups at 6:30 a.m. For Little Rock, the change will affect not only garbage pickup but yard waste, recycling and all other collection services, but for North Little Rock, sanitation will be the only service affected.

The new pickup times will continue through “at least mid-September” for Little Rock, and the earlier times will last “as long as the heat is an issue,” for North Little Rock, spokesman Nathan Hamilton said.

The changes were put in place by both cities to protect sanitation workers from the high temperatures in the afternoon.
