Police: Fugitive shot himself during apprehension

A North Little Rock man wanted for two robberies and impersonating a police officer purportedly shot himself while authorities tried to arrest him Thursday, police say.

About 5 p.m. Thursday the U.S. Marshal’s Service Task Force along with England police, Little Rock police and officers with the Arkansas Community Correction attempted to arrest 26-year-old Lamar Moore at 218 N. Washington Ave. in England, Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said.

Moore approached authorities and first pointed a gun to his head, then at an officer. Then, "at least one task force member fired at Moore causing Moore to retreat to a room inside the house,” Sadler said in a statement.

Officers said after Moore retreated, a shot was heard from inside the house. “A preliminary investigation indicates Moore shot himself,” Sadler said.

Earlier this month police said Moore identified himself as a Little Rock police officer with a police badge and black handgun in a holster on his waist during two robberies: one on July 14 at 4419 Maryland Ave. and another on July 18 at at 1515 W. Twin Lakes Drive.

Moore on Friday remained hospitalized in North Little Rock, Sadler said.

An investigation of the shooting is ongoing.
