12th Street Station receives LEED silver certification

The Little Rock Police Department’s 12th Street Police Station has received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver certification, the city of Little Rock announced Wednesday.

The station is the first energy-efficient structure built by the city of Little Rock to receive this U.S. Green Building Council certification, city spokesman Luis Gonzalez said in a statement. The council is a nonprofit organization that promotes environmentally sustainable building practices.

The building includes natural lighting, water treatment techniques and other energy-efficient measures, Gonzalez said.

The two-story station, at 46,000 square feet, is the largest building that the city has built in “many decades,” and is part of the city's efforts to revitalize the 12th Street corridor, he said.
