Curry has a real shot at being MVP of finals

Golden State is favored to win the NBA championship over Cleveland, and the Warriors' Steph Curry is favored to be named the series MVP over the Cavs' LeBron James.

Curry's shooting -- which is so deep sometimes that it concerns Coach Steve Kerr -- has been incredible all year, especially in the playoffs, but if he wins the MVP he may need to consider sharing it with teammate Klay Thompson, who is a great shooting guard.

Opponents cannot double on Curry because Thompson will make them pay.

The way James is playing right now he could be the MVP even if the Cavs lose. But if Cleveland point guard Kyrie Irving -- the third-favorite choice to win the MVP -- has healed to at least 80 percent, the Cavs may be hard to guard.

Curry has been a breath of fresh air with his squeaky clean image. The only controversy surrounding him was when he brought his daughter to postgame news conferences.

A couple of guys working for different Internet sites took exception, even though Internet sites don't have the restrictive deadlines that print media or television have. That is somewhat understandable, because it is a professional setting, it was nice to see an athlete with his child in a positive light.

James is pretty much a positive role model, too, although he is really quick to point out his great basketball skills.

There is justifiable excitement about the Arkansas Razorbacks baseball team hosting an NCAA Super Regional at Baum Stadium, especially considering the Hogs started the SEC season 1-5.

This may be Dave Van Horn's best coaching job. He found a way to turn around the season and make the Razorbacks viable contenders.

There should be equal excitement for Chris Bucknam, Lance Harter and the Razorbacks track and field teams as they get ready to head to the NCAA Outdoor Championships next week.

Bucknam may never replace John McDonnell -- the legendary men's track coach -- in some eyes, but he is winning and the Razorbacks are on the national radar.

Harter won his first national title at Arkansas and the first for the Razorbacks women's program earlier this year at the NCAA Indoor Championships, and his team is among the favorites going into the outdoor championship.

The National Football Foundation sent out its annual ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame, and only one former Arkansas Razorback player was on the list, Cliff Powell.

Powell is certainly worthy, having been a two-time All-Southwest Conference selection and leading the Razorbacks to the 1969 and 1970 Sugar Bowls. Both times he was the leading tackler on the team. He still ranks sixth at Arkansas in career tackles with 367.

Former Arkansas coach Danny Ford, who led Clemson to a national title in 1981, is also on the ballot. Ford was Arkansas' head coach from 1993-1997 and led the Razorbacks to the SEC West Division title and an appearance in the SEC Championship game in 1995.

Adrian Peterson has returned to the Minnesota Vikings for organized team activities after several tumultuous months after claims of child abuse.

Peterson credited a love for the game of football, his teammates and coaches for his return.

He didn't mention the $250,000 he gets paid for attending OTAs.

When Brett Bielema and his Arkansas football staff start considering a recruit, they do extensive research, and it's not just into how fast someone runs or how physical they are.

The latest offer seems like another one of the models they are looking for in future Razorbacks.

Jake Heinrich is a 6-4, 290-pound offensive lineman form Urbandale, Iowa. Among his offers is one from Duke and, yes, he has the grades to get in there (he has a 3.8 grade-point average and already has made a 27 on the ACT). But he told our man Richard Davenport he was extremely impressed with Bielema and offensive line coach Sam Pittman.

Pittman has had 16 of his linemen drafted by NFL teams, and Bielema adds another 10 to their combined resume.

Heinrich is visiting the UA this weekend.
