Arkansas' Cotton, Franks honored by SEC

Arkansas freshman Kenzo Connor was named the SEC's co-freshman runner of the year while senior Nathanael Franks earned the conference's scholar-athlete of the year award Tuesday.

Franks was the SEC's scholar-athlete of the year in 2013 and 2014 as well. He is also a finalist for the NCAA's Walter Byers postgraduate scholarship and a finalist for the Rhodes scholarship.

Cotton is the third Razorback to earn SEC freshman of the year honors, joining teammate Omar McLeod (2014) and Wallace Spearmon (2004).

Both Cotton and Franks have qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.

UA's Scott, Harter earn SEC awards

Arkansas women's Coach Lance Harter was name the SEC's coach of the year and senior Dominique Scott earned the conference's runner of the year award Tuesday.

Harter guided Arkansas to an SEC championship last month. The Razorbacks will have 16 athletes in next week's NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Scott joins Catherine White (2009) and Aneita Denton (2005) as Razorbacks who have been named conference runners of the year. She won the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter races at the SEC Championship.

UALR adds volunteer assistant

UALR has added Matt Farmer to its staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2016 season.

Trojans Coach Chris Curry announced the hiring Tuesday.

Farmer had been a graduate assistant at Northwestern (La.) State the past two seasons. He played for Northwestern State in 2010-2013. Curry coached Farmer in 2013 at Northwestern State.

Farmer will handle first base coaching duties in addition to helping out with the pitching staff.
