Courtesy Photo Junior Auxiliary of Rogers-Bentonville held its final distribution of books at Rogers elementary schools in May. The mission of the book distributions is to motivate young children to read. The Junior Auxiliary began distributing books to local elementary schools in 1977. Three times a school year, JARB holds a book distribution at 12 elementary schools in Rogers and two in Bentonville to provide second graders with books. By the end of the school year, each second grader at participating schools will have received three books. Schools are selected based on the number of students participating in the federal free and reduced lunch program.

Beta Sigma Phi

Laureate Alpha Mu Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi, luncheon meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, hosted by the board at the home of Fern Haskins, 4 Farnham Drive in Bella Vista.

BACA

The Northwest Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse will meet at 1:30 p.m. June 14 in the conference center at Cabela's Retail Store, 2300 Promenade Blvd. in Rogers.

All chapter meetings are open to the general public, and anyone interested in the organization is invited. Though patched membership requires motorcycle ownership, supporter status does not. All members and supporters must clear an N.C.I.C. background check.

Photographers

The Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas invites the public to attend its Ozark Photo Challenge gallery reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the PSNWA Gallery & Studios, 126 W. Emma Ave. in Springdale. This will be one of two receptions celebrating winners from the four-state Ozark Photo Challenge. Light refreshments will be served.

Daniel McKissick

The Colonel Daniel McKissick Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, will meet at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Zany's Acropolis, 905 NW 13th St. in Bentonville. Guests are welcome.

Hill Hikers

The Ozark Hill Hikers, affiliated with the American Volkssport Association, invite all club members and other interested walkers to join in a group walk Saturday in Siloam Springs. Registration is at 8 a.m. at the Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce, 115 E. University St., and the walk will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The walk follows the Dogwood Springs Walking Trail. This wooded trail meanders along Sager Creek, through John Brown University, along residential streets and will cross the state border of Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Computers

The Bella Vista Computer Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday to discuss using tech devices to monitor health and wellness. Ellen Creakbaum, R.N., nurse educator from the Schmieding Center, will present the program.

This public meeting is held at the Highlands Crossing Center (lower level), 1801 Forest Hills Blvd. in Bella Vista.

Aquariums

The Northwest Arkansas Aquarium Society will meet at 7 p.m. Saturday to present assorted mini and do-it-yourself topics. Various speakers will share insights on assorted aquarium-related topics. Come at 6:30 p.m. to meet with other hobbyists.

The club meets on the second Saturday of every month in the community room of the Rogers Police Station, at the corner of Dixieland and New Hope roads in Rogers. Admission and refreshments are free. There are door prizes for new faces, and a mini auction is held at meeting's end. Everyone is welcome, and meetings are family friendly.

NARFE

Bella Vista Chapter 1547, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, will meet at 10 a.m. Friday in the Village Insurance community meeting room at 2838 Bella Vista Way, across from the Sugar Creek Shopping Center. Speaker will be Shannon Bryant, director of Village House, which sponsors and runs an adult day care program in Bella Vista.

All current and retired federal employees and their spouses are welcome.

Ladies Day Out

Join the Ladies Day Out at 10:30 a.m. June 16. The group will meet at the old Delta Bank parking lot, northwest corner of Arkansas 340 and Arkansas 279, and carpool to the Wooden Spoon Restaurant for lunch and then on to Siloam Springs to shop at the French Hen and Day Springs Outlet.

The Bella Vista Ladies Bunco group will meet at 11 a.m. June 17 at the Concordia main building. Cost is $10.25, which includes lunch and game. Guests are welcome and reservations are required.

Rotary Club

The Bella Vista Sunrise Rotary Club will serve hamburger/hot dog meals from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Bella Vista Community Band Concert. Cost is $8 with all proceeds going to local organizations and charities. The concert starts at 7 p.m. at Blowing Springs Park.

Up In Arms

The Northwest Arkansas Up In Arms Longarm Guild will meet at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mimi's Cafe, 2105 Promenade Blvd. in Rogers, for the June luncheon. Participants will work on and discuss exercises for quilters and should come prepared to share a favorite exercise they do to help with an aching body after a day of quilting.

Democrats

Rich Huddleston and Laura Kellams, executives with Arkansas Advocates For Children and Families, will speak to the Senior Democrats of Northwest Arkansas at noon June 16 at the Western Sizzlin Restaurant in Springdale. They will talk about the current needs for funding programs affecting children and families in Arkansas.

Elks Lodge

Members of Elks Lodge 2144 will meet at 6 p.m. Monday for an administration meeting followed by a regular lodge meeting at 7 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend.

On Friday, the Elks will be hosting a steak dinner and music will be provided by Wes & Hope.

The Elks will be hosting a Flag Day Ceremony with Boy Scout Troop 2144 at 1 p.m. June 14 and all are welcome to attend.
