UALR hires new vice chancellor for finance

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has hired Charles Cansler as the new vice chancellor for finance and administration, Chancellor Joel Anderson announced Tuesday.

Cansler, who currently serves as the North Carolina State University controller, will join the Little Rock university July 27, University of Arkansas at Little Rock spokesman Keli Jacobi said in a news release. He replaces Bob Adams, who will retire from the position July 1.

Cansler has worked in his position at North Carolina State University for four years where he oversaw $1.4 billion in annual expenditures, the release states. He also led several university committees, including the financial steering committee, the administrative processes review committee and the financial subcommittee of the outreach and engagement strategic steering committee.

Before working at North Carolina State University, Cansler founded and managed The Cansler Group, a higher education information technology firm.

Cansler earned a bachelor's degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology before receiving his master's degree in business administration from Baylor University. He started consulting in higher education when he joined former human resources technology firm PeopleSoft in 2000. Prior to that, Cansler practiced as a certified public accountant in Georgia and served as an Internal Revenue Service agent.
