Marianna history

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program’s “Walks Through History” tour Saturday through the Marianna Commercial Historic District will start at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, West Main and South Church streets, Marianna. The tour is co-sponsored by the Marianna/Lee County Chamber of Commerce and the Gladlands. Admission is free. Statehood celebration

Singer Bonnie Montgomery and violinist Geoff Robson will perform 19th-century tunes, 5-8 p.m. Friday on the lawn of the Old State House Museum, 300 W. Markham St., Little Rock, as part of Second Friday Art Night and to kick off a weekend celebrating 179 years of Arkansas statehood. Take picnic blankets and lawn chairs. Admission is free.

And the Old State House and the Historic Arkansas Museum, 200 E. Third St., Little Rock, will jointly celebrate the statehood anniversary with “The Quest for Statehood: From the Delta to the Hills,” an interactive, living-history role-playing game, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.

Sign design

Monday is the deadline for professional and amateur designers and artists to register for central Arkansas design collective studioMAIN’s competition for the nod to design signs for the 500 block of Little Rock’s Main Street for arts groups — the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Arkansas — that are locating studios and offices along the so-called Creative Corridor.

Design submissions are due by July 1. The winners will be selected July 3; the signs will be unveiled Sept. 14. Individual and collaborative group submissions are welcome.

The Weekend Theater, West Seventh and Chester streets, Little Rock, will hold auditions at 10 a.m. June 20 and 6 p.m. June 21 for three plays:
