SCOTT CONNECTIONS SPRING DINNER

Pecan orchard offers spot for preservation fundraiser

The home of David Dortch and Bethany Johnson sits in the middle of a 150-year-old pecan orchard, across the road from Bearskin Lake in Scott. Hosts and orchard on June 7 welcomed about 200 to the outdoor Scott Connections Spring Dinner.

As guests arrived, they could enjoy appetizers that included fried pickles and bacon-wrapped shrimp and a variety of libations, buy raffle tickets for a quilt and bid on silent auction items.

A Southern style meal of fried fish and chicken with all the trimmings was served by Woods Catering of Camden. Guests dined at tables that dotted the lawn among large old trees.

The annual supper raised about $25,000 for the Scott Plantation Settlement, which collects and preserves buildings and artifacts of historical significance to the local farming community.
