Opera-ting grant

The University of Central Arkansas’ College of Fine Arts and Communication has received a $32,400 grant from the Multi-Arts Production Fund toward its commissioning of a Little Rock Nine opera from Cuban-born composer and conductor Tania Leon, with a libretto by literary critic and scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr.

The college has also received a $15,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, $50,000 from the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation and $25,000 from the Darragh Foundation.
