Jordan Spieth says he was watching TV last week, relaxing before heading for Chambers Bay, and just kind of felt the urge to wear a jacket.
Specifically, a green one given to him after the 21-year-old won his first major championship -- the Masters -- two months ago.
Why did he wear it?
"Why wouldn't I?" Spieth asked."I was just kind of watching TV and wanted to slip it on. Just kind of felt like it."
Spieth has soared to No. 2 in the world golf rankings behind Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy and became the second-youngest golfer behind Tiger Woods to win the Masters when he cruised with an 18-under-par 270 at Augusta National Golf Club in April.
He's not content.
"As I've told myself, I have a chance to make history in many ways," Spieth said. "But in order to do that I have to really focus on this week, focus on the major championships and how I'm going to prepare for them.
"It's never even crossed my mind to let it kind of sink in that it's been a great year and that it would be a great year at the end. If I didn't do anything the rest of the year, I'd be pretty frustrated."
He said the Masters victory was life changing off the course, but not on it.
Spieth's eyes are set on a Grand Slam -- winning all four major golf championships -- which the Dallas native hopes to accomplish with former University Place teacher Michael Greller as his caddie.
"You can't win a Grand Slam unless you win the first, so I'm the only one with that opportunity this year," Spieth said. "My goal this week is to give myself a chance to win again, see if we can duplicate what we did two months ago."
And, no, he won't be wearing his green jacket anytime soon. At least not for the next week.
"It's at my house right now, and it's perfectly content there," Spieth said. "I hope to keep it there for many years to come."
