County district gets new financial chief

Denise Bradshaw Palmer of Cabot will be the new chief financial officer for the Pulaski County Special School District, replacing Bill Goff who is retiring from the position this month.

Palmer has worked for the Arkansas Federal Credit Union in Jacksonville since 2004. She has been senior vice president/chief financial officer for that organization since 2011.

She has a 1994 bachelor's degree in accounting from Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss.

Palmer's salary in the Pulaski County Special district will be $122,732.

Free, 4-week camp set at Pulaski Tech

Pulaski Technical College's Network for Student Success will offer a free, four-week summer technical science camp for students entering grades nine through 12.

The program runs June 29-July 24 with classes from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily at the college's main campus, 3000 W. Scenic Drive in North Little Rock. A mandatory orientation will be held Thursday from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

During the camp, students will learn about different technical careers; take field trips and recreational outings; learn about money management; and receive mentoring, leadership and character-building skills.

The Network for Student Success is a federally funded Predominantly Black Institutions program by the U.S. Department of Education and focuses on raising the graduation rates of black men.

Communications group picks leader

Deborah Roush, executive director of communications for the Pulaski County Special School District, will be president for the next two years of the Arkansas chapter of the National School Public Relations Association.

The group's vice president is Devin Sherrill, director of communications for Bryant School District, and its secretary is Brian Bridges, communications coordinator for the Lake Hamilton School District.

The mission of the school public relations association is to improve communication efforts between Arkansas schools and its patrons.
