ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Abrams, church get 'thanks' at Treatment Homes event

Annie Abrams received the Make a Difference Award at Treatment Homes' 32nd Anniversary Celebration on June 9 at the Governor's Mansion.

Abrams was introduced by Consevella James, the nonprofit's executive director, who noted that Abrams believes in sharing with others, setting an example, bringing others along and young people.

"She believes strongly that it takes a village."

First lady Susan Hutchinson presented the award to the honoree.

First Church of the Nazarene in Hot Springs received the Angel Award for providing a space for training classes and holiday parties for foster families. The late Glenda Bittle, who died last year and was a founding member of the organization, was remembered for her service and for fostering more than 100 children with her husband, Kennedy Bittle.

The event was a fundraiser for Treatment Homes, which trains foster parents to provide therapeutic support for foster children with severe emotional or behavioral problems. Alyse Eady served as master of ceremonies.
