Uncle Sam joins crowd at Flag Day celebration

Patriotic red, white and blue bunting decorated Curran Hall on Flag Day, June 14, and Uncle Sam greeted guests at the door as they arrived for Colors at Curran.

Uncle Sam, also known as Jim Rule, passed out flags and directed guests toward the back porch where a Southern-style picnic was being served including barbecue, watermelon and ice cream from Loblolly Creamery.

On display was an 1859 square grand piano that belonged to the Woodruff family, Curran Hall's former owners. It had sat in Curran Hall from the 1860s to the 1990s.

The Little Rock Visitor Foundation recently acquired the piano.

The foundation's board of directors hosted the Flag Day celebration. The group's mission is to preserve and promote Curran Hall through programs and activities that support its upkeep. Curran Hall also serves as the Visitor Information Center for Little Rock and as the Little Rock mayor's reception hall.
