Temperatures will surge into the 90s across Arkansas on Tuesday and the humidity will make it feel even hotter, the National Weather Service said.

Parts of eastern Arkansas were set to go under a heat advisory from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. because the humidity will couple with the high temperatures to make it feel like it has exceeded the 100-degree mark, the weather service said.

Forecasters said the sweltering conditions are due to a high pressure ridge over the region.

"Under the ridge, it will certainly feel like summer," the weather service said in a statement. "Temperatures will be above normal and raindrops will be few and far between."

The weather service warned in the heat advisory message that heat-related illnesses are possible if precautions aren't taken. People are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning and out of the sun as possible, and check up on relatives and neighbors, the statement said.

The heat advisory includes only counties in eastern Arkansas, but hot conditions are expected across the whole state. Temperatures are expected to reach the 90s in all parts of the state. Little Rock is forecast to hit 96 with a heat index up to 102.

Some relief could be on the way Friday when a cold front is expected to move in, providing by the weekend a "nice reprieve from the recent warm temperatures in addition to a bit of a break in the humidity as well," the weather service said.
