Capt. Scott Adams, the commander of the Blytheville Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division, said Kennon Daniels, 20, died late Monday after he was shot in the 700 block of East McHaney Drive in south Blytheville at 8:30 a.m.

Police received calls that two people were shooting at each other. When they arrived, they found Daniels with one gunshot wound. Medical personnel took Daniels to Great River Medical Center in Blytheville, where he died.

Later Monday, police received calls of a shooting in Williams Park, about 10 blocks west of the East McHaney Drive homicide. Officers found Vincent Stone, 22, with several gunshot wounds. Stone and several others were playing basketball at 8:30 p.m. when he was shot, Adams said.

Stone was taken to the Blytheville hospital and later flown by medical helicopter to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, where he died of his injuries.

Adams said several people saw the shooting, and detectives are questioning them.

The two homicides don't appear to be related, Adams said. They are the fifth and sixth slayings in the Mississippi County town this year.
