Holiday lane closures set across state

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department says travelers hitting the road for the July 4 weekend should keep in mind lane restrictions that will be in place on several of the state's major highways.

The agency said AAA projects a 0.7 percent increase in holiday traffic from last year with nearly 42 million American motorists driving 50 miles or more this weekend.

"Extensive highway improvements continue in the state," the highway department said in a statement. "With those improvements come work zones. To aid in your holiday travel, AHTD has been working hard to open as many lanes as possible. Still, travelers will likely face work zones and possible delays due to increased traffic volume."

Major restrictions that will be in place during the holiday include:

  • Interstate 30 in Benton between mile markers 107 and 11, in which one westbound lane is closed
  • Interstate 55 in Blytheville between mile markers 68 and 72, in which one lane is closed in each direction
  • Interstate 430 in Little Rock between mile markers 5 and 6, in which one southbound lane is closed
  • Interstate 530 in Little Rock between mile markers 1 and 9, in which one lane is closed in each direction
  • Interstate 530 in White Hall between mile markers 23 and 30, in which one southbound lane is closed
  • U.S. 67 in Bald Knob between mile markers 50 and 55, in which one lane is closed in each direction
