Roger Benge, 59, purportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to police.

Terry Benge is in critical but stable condition at UAMS Medical Center for treatment of what appeared to be a gunshot wound in the back of her head, Little Rock police spokesman Steven McClanahan said.

The episode occurred at 419 Deerbrook Road in Little Rock.

Police received a call about 9:30 a.m. Sunday from neighbor Harold Kelly, according to a report.

Kelly told police that Terry Benge had come to his house for help because she couldn't wake Roger Benge.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Roger Benge's body with a small blue handgun lying next to the left side of his head.

McClanahan said the couple had been experiencing financial trouble, based on information gathered at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing.
