Suspect in fatal kidnapping changes plea

HOT SPRINGS — A southwest Arkansas man charged with kidnapping and killing a Gurdon woman and driving her body across multiple states has changed his plea to guilty, U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge announced Monday.

Kevin Bolton entered the new plea in U.S. District Court on Monday afternoon.

Bolton was indicted by a federal grand jury on Jan. 29, 2014, and previously pleaded innocent to the charge. His attorney did not immediately return a phone call for comment.

Bolton is charged in the death of 20-year-old Cassandra Nicole "Cassie" Carter of Gurdon. Prosecutors say he kidnapped and killed Gurdon in March, 2013, then drove across multiple states with her body in the trunk of the vehicle.

Her body was found in the car trunk in Cherokee, N.C., in March 2013.

Eldridge said in a news release that Bolton will be sentenced at a later date.
