About 10,000 athletes were greeted with cloudy conditions and a cold drizzle Sunday morning as they took to the streets of Little Rock for the 13th annual Little Rock Marathon.

Runners took off from East Capitol Avenue & Scott Street to cheers from spectators and made their way toward the state Capitol.

About 2,950 are registered to run the full marathon, about 5,000 registered for the half marathon and about 1,600 registered to run the 10K, according to Little Rock marathon media director Amanda Richardson.

This year’s reworked course no longer involves crossing Broadway Bridge to North Little Rock due to construction. The rerouting includes four extra winding miles in downtown Little Rock compared to previous years.

Among the almost 6,190 Arkansan racers, competitors from 46 states made the trip to Little Rock for the race.

The course will take marathoners around the city before they make their way to the finish line at President Clinton Avenue & Sherman Street in the River Market District.

Mark Chepses of Iowa and Leah Thorvilson of of Little Rock won last year’s race. Chepses crossed the finish line with a time of 2:25:45, and Thorvilson finished in 2:42:39.
