Singers, dancers to cover hits in Live From Nashville show

Live From Nashville, a touring song-and-dance variety show that covers the hits that have emerged from the so-called "Music City," will be onstage at 2 p.m. today at the Arend Arts Center, 1901 S.E. J St., Bentonville.

Violinist of distinction

Violinist Vadim Gluzman, the Arkansas Symphony's 2014-15 Richard Sheppard Arnold Artist of Distinction, will join members of the orchestra for a River Rhapsodies Series chamber concert, 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Great Hall of the Clinton Presidential Center, 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock.

Gluzman will play Lonely Suite (Ballet for a Lonely Violinist), which Lera Auerbach wrote especially for him. The DDG Trio -- oboists Leanna Booze, Beth Wheeler and Lorraine Duso-Kitts -- will play the world premiere of The Featherlight Ballet by Stephanie Berg.

Algimantis Staskevicius, violin; Tatiana Kotcherguina, viola; and Felice Farrell, cello, will open the program with the Serenade in C major, op.10, by Ernst von Dohnanyi. And Gluzman will join Kiril Laskarov, violin; Ryan Mooney and Katrina Weeks, viola; and David Gerstein, cello, for the String Quintet No. 1 in a minor by Max Bruch.

Soup Sunday

Matthew McClure from The Hive at the 21c Hotel in Bentonville, is the VIP chef for Northwest Soup Sunday, 4-7 p.m. today, Northwest Arkansas Convention Center, 1500 S. 48th St., Springdale, a benefit for Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families.

Participating restaurants serving up soups, breads and desserts include 28 Springs, AQ Chicken, Backyard Burgers, Bordino's, the Farmer's Table, Flying Fish, Greenhouse Grille, Green Bean, Hog Haus Brewing Co., Holiday Inn, Hugo's, IDK? Cafe, Marketplace Grill, Olive Garden, Ozark Natural Foods, Springdale Country Club, Spring Street Grill, Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe, The Hive, Wood Stone Craft Pizza and Vetro 1925. Panera Bread will supply bread; Arsaga's Cafe will provide coffee. The McFetridge Jazz Combo will perform and there will be a silent auction.

Experts recommend bringing a muffin tin in which to carry multiple soup samples. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door; $5 for children 5-12, free for children younger than 5. VIP Signature Soup Room tickets, $50, also include complimentary beer, wine, a special soup prepared by Chef Alan Dierks of Vetro 1925 and dessert.

Contemporary dance

Koresh Dance Company, a Philadelphia-based contemporary dance troupe, will perform at 8 p.m. Friday in Baum Walker Hall at Fayetteville's Walton Arts Center, 495 W. Musical surf, turf

Also in the center's Baum Walker Hall this week: the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas will offer a Masterworks concert titled "Surf and Turf" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Paul Haas will conduct "The Moldau" from Ma Vlast by Bedrich Smetana, La Mer by Claude Debussy and The Pines of Rome by Ottorino Respighi.

Irish dance show

Women of Ireland, a touring production with a 20-member company of musicians, singers and dancers, will be onstage at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

The list of performers includes vocalists The O'Neil Sisters and dancers who have been part of the company for Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance and Riverdance, among them Anthony Fallon, a world champion and former Riverdance lead dancer.

Architecture lecture

Deborah Berke, a fellow of the American Institute of Architects and principal at the New York firm of Deborah Berke Partners, will give a lecture titled "Out of the Ordinary," 6 p.m. Tuesday in the lecture hall of the Arkansas Arts Center, in MacArthur Park, East Ninth and Commerce streets, Little Rock. A 5:30 reception will precede the lecture, which is under the auspices of the Architecture and Design Network and the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville. Civil War exhibit

"Rebels, Federals & Bushwhackers," based on eyewitness accounts from Northwest Arkansas citizens during the Civil War, will be on display Saturday-Dec. 6 at the Rogers Historical Museum, 322 S. Second St., Rogers.

Flute seminar

John Barcellona, director of woodwind studies and professor of flute in the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University-Long Beach, will be the guest artist for the Hot Springs Flute Ensemble's 11th flute seminar, in collaboration with Ouachita Baptist University, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. March 14 in the Mabee Fine Arts Center at OBU, 410 Ouachita St., Arkadelphia.

Cost of the seminar is $30 in advance, $35 at the door.

Barcellona will lecture on perfecting flute intonation; participants in a seminar flute choir will play Chamber Jazz by Chris Caliendo, written for Barcellona's university flute choir.
