Arkansas Democrat-Gazette/JENNIFER CHRISTMAN Mighties the Amazing Fuzzy Fruit for Jennifer Christman's ActiveStyle coiumn Slim Pickings.

WHAT: Mighties kiwi

STATS: A serving of two kiwi contains 90 calories and 1 fat, 22 carbohydrate, 4 fiber and 2 protein grams. Complete nutrition and store locator information at mightieskiwi.com. Sold in 1-to-4-pound boxes; we bought a 3-pound box at Sam's Club, 900 S. Bowman Road, Little Rock.

THE SKINNY: For Lent, I've given up sugar. And artificial sweeteners. And salty, crunchy, fried stuff. And all my usual reasons to live. I say this not to elicit sympathy but to inform: For the next several weeks, this column will focus on more natural "whole" foods.

You know Cuties. Now meet their greener, fuzzier siblings, Mighties. Packaged in eye-catching plastic clamshells, Mighties are "Ripe & Easy" kiwi -- fruit we always avoided because peeling seemed so taxing. Little did we know, all we had to do was cut one open and scoop out the ready-to-eat, sweet-tart flesh with a spoon.

They're called Mighties because, despite their small size, they offer some mighty big benefits if the packaging is to be believed: "More potassium than a banana," "More vitamin C than an orange," "More fiber than the leading cereal brand," and "More vitamin E and K than an avocado" per serving.
