BASKETBALL

Henderson State men’s coach not retained

Henderson State announced in a news release Monday that it will renew the contract of men’s coach Doug Nichols.

Nichols went 55-56 in four seasons with the Reddies. Henderson State finished 11-15 overall and 8-12 in the Great American Conference. The Reddies were ninth in the GAC standings and failed to reach the conference tournament.

“I appreciate the effort and dedication Coach Nichols provided during his tenure as our men’s basketball coach,” Athletic Director Shawn Jones said in a release. “We thank him for his service to our program and wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”

Isom honored by Sun Belt

UALR sophomore Mareik Isom was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

Isom, a 6-7 forward, averaged 15.5 points, while shooting 78.6 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from three-point range in a victory over Georgia State and a loss at Texas-Arlington. Isom had a career-high 17 points against Georgia State, when he made 5 of 6 three-pointers. he then made 4 of 5 threes while scoring 14 points against Texas-Arlington.

Isom is averaging 6.7 points per game this season, and 7.7 points in Sun Belt games.

Adams GAC women’s player of the week

Arkansas Tech junior forward Fatima Adams was named the Great American Conference women’s Player of the Week on Monday.

Adams averaged 19.5 points in two Golden Suns victories last week. She finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds in Arkansas Tech’s 85-73 victory over Harding last Thursday. In the Golden Suns’ regular-season finale Saturday, Adams had 18 points and eight rebounds to lead Arkansas Tech to a 77-60 victory.

Ozarks’ players honored

University of the Ozarks’ Jace Richardson, a 6-6 point guard was named American Southwest Conference freshman of the year. Kelby Robinson, a 6-6 junior forward was named third-team, all-conference and Dylan Gray , a 6-5 freshman was named to the all-freshman team.

For the women, Bryanna Moltz, a 6-2 forward, was named second-team, all-conference. Ashley Hipps, a 5-7 junior guard was named honorable-mention, all-conference. Madison Sherrer, a 5-6 freshman earned a spot on the all-freshman team. Jordanna Andrews, a 5-6 senior guard was named sportsmanship athlete of the year.

GOLF

Arkansas 12th in Mexico

Arkansas’ men are in 12th place after two rounds of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in Los Cabos, Mexico.

The Razorbacks have a 36-hole score of 584 (291-293) while South Florida leads with a 559. Stanford is second with a 560 while Florida State is third at 562.

Taylor Moore is the Razorbacks’ top player with a 1-under-par 141 (72-69) and is in 11th place overall.

Wonder Boys tied for fourth in Las Vegas

Arkansas Tech shot a final round 302 to finish with a 36-hole total of 598 and finish tied for fourth with Missouri-St. Louis at the Las Vegas Desert Classic. Redlands won the tournament with a 592.

Alex Mahlik shot a final-round 73 and finished tied for second.

BASEBALL

Ozarks’ Dominguez tosses four-hitter

University of the Ozarks’ Oscar Dominguez threw a four-hitter to lead the Eagles to a 6-1 victory over Howard Payne University Monday in Brownwood, Texas.

Dominguez (1-1) struck out four for the Ozarks (4-7, 1-3 American Southwest Conference). Andrew Beck went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI and Keaton Ramsey finished 2 for 3.

Howard Payne (4-3, 3-2) won the second game 5-2. John Singler (0-2) took the loss for Ozarks.
