High school basketball games postponed for weather

The Arkansas Activities Association has postponed Wednesday’s state basketball tournament in all classifications because of winter weather.

According to the AAA, the postponement will push the semifinal round in each classification to Sunday. The state championship rounds will still take place in Hot Springs on March 12-14.

“The decision was based on a safety issue,” said Lance Taylor, AAA executive director. “We wanted to make sure that everyone could travel to our state locations without hazardous driving conditions. The weather conditions will not be favorable to travel on Wednesday, and warmer temperatures are expected for the rest of the week.”

The starting times for tournament games won’t change with the postponement. The semifinal round Sunday will begin at 12:30 p.m.

A winter storm with freezing rain, sleet and snow is forecast for most of the state Wednesday.
