UA's Pugh finalist for Texas A&M job

FAYETTEVILLE -- The top official overseeing student life for the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville is one of two finalists for a similar position at Texas A&M University.

Danny Pugh, UA's vice provost for student affairs, will visit the Texas campus March 12-13 to interview for the position of vice president for student affairs, according to Texas A&M's website. The other finalist is David W. Parrott, an internal candidate working for Texas A&M's Division of Student Affairs. Parrott will have his finalist's interview March 26-27.

"I am very humbled to be considered for the VPSA position at Texas A&M. While there are numerous reasons for my interest, most prominent are the rich student traditions and the Aggie Core Values of excellence, integrity, leadership, loyalty, respect, and selfless service which resonate closely to my professional and personal values system," Pugh wrote in an email to the Democrat-Gazette.

In Pugh's cover letter, he described how UA has been home for nearly a decade and how the "Razorback Family has never been stronger." But he added that while "there may never be a best time to transition to a new professional opportunity, there may never be a better time with so many significant successes occurring."

Pugh makes $197,498 annually at UA. The salary for the Texas A&M position when last filled was $257,501, according to Texas A&M spokesman Lane B. Stephenson.
