Couple charged in vintage car fraud case

A couple who previously owned a Harrison car lot has been charged in a vintage car consignment fraud case, U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge announced on Thursday.

Travis Blount Jr., 56, and his wife Sandra Blount, 47, both of Kirbyville, Mo., appeared separately in the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Arkansas for arraignment on charges, Eldridge said in an email.

The Blounts owned Corvettes and Classics in Harrison and Al's Hot Rods in Kirbyville where they made agreements with customers to sell classic and vintage cars on consignment, Eldridge said.

The complaint states that the Blounts purportedly sold cars frequently without paying owners and didn't deliver the vehicle or title to buyers, Eldridge said.

Travis Blount has been charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud, three counts of mail fraud, four counts of wire fraud, two counts of interstate transportation of goods to conceal a scheme to defraud and four counts of money laundering, the email states.

Sandra Blount was charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud, and one count of aiding and abetting mail fraud, one count of wire fraud, one count of interstate transportation of goods to conceal a scheme to defraud and one count of money laundering, Eldridge said.

Both Blounts pleaded innocent to the charges and are scheduled to appear in court April 6.

Authorities are still seeking to identify victims of the case and instructed those with information to contact Special Agent Tim Arsenault at (479) 571-9763.
