Officers responded shortly after 4 a.m. to a shots-fired call in the 2200 block of Moss Street between West 22nd and West 23rd streets. They found Robert Justice, 44, dead in the street. He had been shot at least once, police reported.

Police did not release further details on the slaying or victim. A public records search using Justice's name and birth date yielded no results.

Moss Street resident Eblyn Lopez said she was home Wednesday morning when she heard one gunshot followed by screaming. She said she was too afraid to look outside, so she hid until police arrived and came to her door seeking information on the slaying.

Lopez said she didn't believe the victim was a resident of the neighborhood.

A couple who live across the street from Lopez declined to give their names to a reporter but said they were awoken by flashing police lights Wednesday morning. They said they looked out of the window and saw officers standing around a body and cordoning off the street with crime-scene tape.

Police spokesman officer Carmen Helton referred questions to Sgt. Brian Dedrick, who had not returned calls as of late Wednesday.

Dedrick said in a news release that an investigation was ongoing and "more information regarding this incident will be released as it becomes available."

Justice's death is the second homicide of the year in North Little Rock. Dauanta Young, 17, was one of two people found shot in a vehicle at Glenview Boulevard and Muldrow Drive on Feb. 12. Young was pronounced dead at the scene.
