BENTONVILLE -- Gov. Asa Hutchinson has appointed former state representative Keven Anderson to fill a vacant position on the Northwest Arkansas Community College Board.

Anderson, 48, of Rogers will take the board's District 7 seat that last belonged to Amy Forrest. Forrest resigned in July, citing increased work and family responsibilities.

Forrest's term was scheduled to expire at the end of 2018. Anderson will have to run for election before that, however, in order to keep the seat. A news release from Hutchinson's office states the appointment expires Dec. 31.

Anderson owns Anderson Electric and Plumbing Supply, which has offices in Springdale, Rogers and Harrison. He served three terms in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 2003 through 2008 representing District 96. Term limits forced him out of that seat.

His wife, Lisa Anderson, was a college board member from 2001 to 2004. She was appointed to the board by former Gov. Mike Huckabee. She's now the college's director of institutional research and a Rogers School Board member.

"We believe in community service and giving back. Northwest Arkansas has been awfully good to our family," Keven Anderson said.

Anderson said he wasn't sure why it took so long -- more than seven months -- to fill the board vacancy. College officials approached him about it late last summer and he told them at that time he'd be willing to serve, he said. The transition in the governor's office from Mike Beebe to Hutchinson might have had something to do with the delay, he said.

The college's board is comprised of nine members who are residents and qualified electors of the college's taxing district, the Rogers and Bentonville public school districts. Each board member represents more than 17,000 residents.
