A new traffic configuration on Interstate 40 in Monroe County began Wednesday as a result of a new phase of a construction project, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.
Eastbound traffic was diverted to newly constructed eastbound lanes, providing two lanes for eastbound and westbound traffic. Previously, eastbound traffic used an old westbound lane on a section of highway west of Brinkley, with traffic separated by a concrete wall, the department said.
The work is part of a $30 million project to reconstruct 3.8 miles of I-40. The project is expected to be completed next month, the department said.
