Rain hampers state baseball programs

Arkansas’ Division I baseball programs were plagued by rain Friday.

The Arkansas Razorbacks’ SEC opener against Vanderbilt was postponed because of heavy rain in Nashville, Tenn.

Arkansas (9-4) and No. 4 Vanderbilt (13-4) will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Central today at Hawkins Field, with the final game of the series still scheduled for a noon start Sunday.

Arkansas State (8-8) also had its Sun Belt opener against Georgia State (10-6) postponed at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro. The game has been rescheduled as part of doubleheader that begins at 4 p.m. today.

UALR (4-8, 1-2) also had its series opener against Louisiana-Lafayette (10-5, 3-0) postponed at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock. The Trojans and Ragin’ Cajuns will open their Sun Belt series at 6 p.m. tonight, with a noon doubleheader scheduled for Sunday.

The University of Central Arkansas (8-3, 3-0) had its Southland Conference series opener against Lamar (7-8,0-3) pushed back. The teams will play at 5 p.m. today at Bear Stadium in Conway and will close out the series with an 11 a.m. doubleheader Sunday.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (6-7) also moved its SWAC doubleheader against Southern University (2-10) from Saturday to Sunday at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex. The first game is scheduled for noon.
