UA faculty brass 5 to play; Farce of Nature at Murry's

Boston Mountain Brassworks, the University of Arkansas faculty brass quintet ( Richard Rulli and Chase Teague, trumpet; Timothy Thompson, horn; Cory Mixdorf, trombone; and Benjamin Pierce, tuba) will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, Fine Arts Building, University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Lodging a protest?

The Wilburn family, owners of the Reel 'Em Inn, the "finest little fishing lodge in Mayhew, Ark.," faces threats from gangsters, love-starved females, jealous husbands, ruthless executives and a cranky retired maid in Farce of Nature by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, onstage Tuesday-April 11 at Murry's Dinner Playhouse, 6323 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock.

Opera I

Nancy J. Preis, volunteer chief financial officer, marketing manager and occasional costume manager of the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Opera Company, will take over as the new general director of Opera in the Ozarks in May, ahead of the 2015 season, June 19-July 17, at the Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony, just west of Eureka Springs.

Outgoing General Director Jim Swiggart will assist Preis during the transition period.

The 2015 mainstage opera lineup will be Gioacchino Rossini's La Cenerentola, Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata and Jacques Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann. Visit the website, opera.org.

The University of Central Arkansas Opera Theatre will stage Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (in English) with members of the Conway Symphony at 7 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday in Reynolds Performance Hall, UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. Opera III

The University of Arkansas Opera Theatre will stage Giacomo Puccini's comic one-act Gianni Schicchi (in Italian with English supertitles) at 7 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Benefit concert

Pianist Julie Cheek, members of the Arkansas Symphony and mezzo-soprano Teresa Procter of Houston will join for a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 4106 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock.

The concert, under the banner of ARmusica, is a benefit for St. Joseph Center of Arkansas, which is restoring the former St. Joseph Orphanage in North Little Rock.

Cheek and violist Ryan Mooney will play the Sonata No. 1 for viola and piano in f minor, op.120 No. 1, by Johannes Brahms, and Procter will join them for Brahms' Two Songs for Alto, Viola and Piano ("Gestillte Sehnsucht" and "Geistliches Wiegenlied"). Procter, Cheek and violinist Andrew Irvin will perform Violons dans le soir by Camille Saint-Saens. And Procter and Cheek will perform "Cangio d'aspetto" from Handel's Admeto, "A Chloris" by Reynaldo Hahn and "Zueignung" and "Morgen" by Richard Strauss.

Monologues benefit

A group of Eureka Springs actors will give the 10th anniversary performance of The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Auditorium, 36 S. Main St., Eureka Springs. It's a benefit for Red Tent Sisters; a portion of proceeds will support its programs for Northwest Arkansas women, children and families dealing with domestic violence. Tickets are $25, $35 VIP. • Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View will hold final auditions for musicians seeking to perform in its 2015 season, 11 a.m. Saturday in the park's White Oak Theatre. Come prepared to play at least four songs, three written before 1941 and a song of your choice written at any time or an original composition. A piano will be available; otherwise take your own instruments. No microphones or other sound equipment will be used during the auditions.
