Memphis police investigate 2 killings

Memphis police Wednesday are investigating a pair of early morning homicides.

About 1:50 a.m., officers received a call about a man down at 2574 Selman Ave. and found a 49-year-old man lying in the front yard with an apparent gunshot wound, the Memphis Police Department said. He was taken to Regional One in “extremely critical condition” and was later pronounced dead, police said. Authorities didn’t immediately identify the victim.

The man’s girlfriend “remained on the scene and was taken into custody without incident,” but no charges have yet been filed, the department added.

About 4 a.m., officers responded to a call about a shooting at 718 Wilson Road, where they found a man lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Officers on the scene were told the shooter was “possibly occupying a white SUV which was seen fleeing the scene,” authorities said. No other suspect information was available, the department said.

Investigations into both shootings are ongoing.
