Hogs upset No. 1 in Game 1

— Arkansas bounced back from a dismal stretch in a big way Thursday night.

The Razorbacks upset No. 1 LSU 5-1 at Baum Stadium in the first game of a three-game series. Arkansas won for just the second time in nine games.

The Razorbacks (11-9, 1-3 SEC) scored one run in the first two innings and never trailed. Arkansas chased LSU starter Jared Poche' during a three-run fourth inning.

Notable: Arkansas first baseman Clark Eagan went 3-for-5 in the leadoff position and scored two runs.

Poche', who entered the game 5-0, gave up a career-high 10 hits in a career-low 3 2/3 innings.

Dominic Taccolini pitched six innings to pick up the win for the Razorbacks. Taccolini scattered six hits and struck out two batters.

Zach Jackson pitched three innings to earn his first save of the season. Jackson struck out four batters and allowed only one hit.

Luke Bonfield had an RBI in the first inning and Michael Bernal added an RBI single in the second as Arkansas built a 2-0 lead. Joe Serrano, Rick Nomura and Andrew Benintendi all had RBI hits in the fifth inning as the Razorbacks chased Poche' from the game.

LSU (19-3, 2-2) scored its only run in the sixth inning on Alex Bregman's two-out home run. The Tigers loaded the bases in the fifth inning, but Arkansas third baseman Bobby Wernes began an inning-ending double play to get Taccolini out of the jam.

The teams will play again Friday with a first pitch scheduled for 8:05 p.m.
