Spring is upon us, and Historic Washington State Park is celebrating with its annual Jonquil Festival, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. The festival includes crafts, music, tours and lots of flowers in and around the park’s historic buildings. Bands from Germany, California and points in between will gather in Hot Springs for the annual Valley of the Vapors Independent Music Festival, Friday-Tuesday. The lineup, which includes Shilpa, Native Lights, The Memphis Dawls and Jamaican Queens, will play at venues around the Spa City, mainly at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor St. Admission prices vary for single events, but VIP festival passes are $50. Arkansas Symphony Orchestra players and several area professional dancers will take the stage of the Argenta Community Theater, 405 Main St., North Little Rock, at 7 p.m. today for "The Sound of Dance," the first of two 2015 ACT in Concert performances. The program focuses on solos by orchestra principals (including cello, snare drum and French horn) and small ensembles, including eight violinists and a marimba performing Perpetual Motion by Karl Bohm; cellist David Gerstein will play a piece he commissioned, Ekphrasis sobre "El Miedo" de Tanguy by Jairo Duarte-Lopez; and a pair of dancers will do the "Grand Waltz" from Sergei Prokofiev's ballet Cinderella. "Carole Katchen's Art, Then and Now," oils and pastel paintings of the people Katchen sees in the world around her "with all their quirks and foibles," will be on display Friday-April 10 at Argenta Gallery, 413 Main St., in North Little Rock's Argenta District. The Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra ends its season with a concert, 7 p.m. Saturday at the Pine Bluff Convention Center, 500 E. A digitally remastered version of Rear Window, Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1954 thriller about an injured and restless photojournalist-turned-voyeur (Jimmy Stewart) who suspects one of his neighbors (Raymond Burr) of murdering his wife, will be on the big screen at 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday and Wednesday at the Breckenridge 12 in Little Rock and the Tinseltown in Benton.
