LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Karl-Anthony Towns bounced back from a minislump with 21 points and 11 rebounds and Andrew Harrison added 14 points as No. 1 Kentucky rolled to a 79-56 victory over 16th-seeded Hampton. The 6-foot-11 Towns was forceful all night in helping the Wildcats (35-0) cruise in their tournament opener. 6C

UAB springs upset
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Alabama-Birmingham may not have a football program anymore, but the Blazers have a big upset in this year’s NCAA Tournament. Forward Robert Brown scored a game-high 21 points and William Lee added 14 points and 12 rebounds as No. 14-seeded UAB battled back in the second half to knock off third-seeded Iowa State 60-59. 6C

Villanova rolls in opener
PITTSBURGH — Villanova flexed its top-seeded muscle in the opening round, thumping No. 15-seeded Lafayette 93-52.
Dylan Ennis scored 16 points and Daniel Ochefu had 14 to help the Wildcats, who shot 63 percent (36 of 57), win their 16th consecutive game. Villanova had six players finish with at least 10 points. 6C
