Rain breaks, decreasing flood chances

A break in rain Friday will help lessen chances for flooding throughout the state over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in North Little Rock.

No more rain is expected through the end of the day Friday and through the first half of Saturday, National Weather Service meteorologist Julie Lesko said.

Rain chances increase to 20 percent Saturday afternoon starting about 1 or 2 p.m., and jump up to 50 percent late Saturday into Sunday, Lesko said.

There is a 60 percent chance of rain Sunday through most of the day, then rain will taper off for a dry start to the next work week, Lesko said.

Flooding may occur in isolated areas in the southern part of the state where the bulk of the rain is expected this weekend, but the break in the rainy weather will help lessen those chances, Lesko said.

"The ground is still very saturated, so we're watching [for flooding]," Lesko said.

After the rain ends Sunday, the sun should appear and it will be "pretty sunny" on Monday, she said.

Temperatures will stay in the 60s and 70s with sunshine through the first half of next week, but another rainy period is expected the last half of next week as another front comes through, Lesko said. Below-normal temperatures could return next weekend because of the front, she added.
