AGFC hears proposals on hunting regulations

Commissioners with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission received a briefing on the public response from hunting regulations the agency has proposed. More than 12,800 people have responded to the AGFC’s public online survey. During last year’s survey, more than 7,200 people provided online feedback on the proposed regulations. Some of the proposals being considered for the 2015-2016 season are extending the archery deer season through January on Freddie Black Choctaw Island WMA Deer Research Area east unit; moving the muzzleloader deer season from October to January on Choctaw Island; changing the boundary lines of White Rock, Piney Creek, Ozark National Forest, Lee Creek, Magazine and Sylamore WMAs; and moving the bear archery season opening date to the last Saturday in September.

ASU to play Middle Tennessee in WNIT 2nd round

The Arkansas State women’s basketball team will play at Middle Tennessee in the second round of the WNIT on Sunday afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. Central in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Middle Tennessee (22-9) beat Ball State 69-58 on Thursday night.. The Red Wolves (24-10) beat Western Michigan 61-49 in their WNIT opener Wednesday.

BASEBALL

UCA series opener moved up

Central Arkansas’ Southland Conference series opener at Houston Baptist today has been moved up to 11 a.m. Central to avoid expected inclement weather later in the day. The Bears (11-4, 6-0 Southland) and Huskies (9-11, 1-2) will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Husky Field in Houston.
